The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

The whole world is watching....

Horror is not stopped by borders and within minutes of the massacre in Connecticut, people were talking about it here.  And here also, tears were shed.  Everywhere, there are parents and children. teachers and schools, so a universal empathy kicks in.  There is grief.  There were prayers and opinions offered.  However, people's perspective living outside the bubble of El Norte's culture is one of sheer disbelief.  "What is happening to that country?  It is committing suicide, slowly, in front of our eyes.  Can't they see it?"
Polarization is so profound at this point, it is hard to see a way out of our self-created mess(es).  My opinions about guns and violence are my own, but basically boil down to, "Don't need 'em. Don't want 'em."  They are antithetical to the way I chose to live my life, but that's just me.  I realize I am never gonna convince Ted Nugent otherwise and that is frustrating and, in no small part irritating enough, to want grab a two by four and.... see what a trap that is?
"Since there is this, there is that, and since this happens, that happens.  Since there is none of this, there is none of that and since this dies, that dies."
