This is what a soul needs, to be nourished by joy, energy, happiness and pride. It's a potent combination and yesterday's desfile or parade of the delegations of dancers from all over the state was overflowing in all of the above. It is hard to know where to begin. Dancing in the streets...
Flor de piña!!!!
The desfile was once again led by la diosa, Señorita
Leticia Reyes Salinas from Jamiltepec
I love seeing all the young people involved.
Imagine participating in something like this. You'd be hooked for life. I sure am.
Insuring the traditions continue infinitum.
And did I mention beauty?
Classic traditions!
A photographer's dream.
And smiles everywhere one looked.
Here's looking at you, kid..... I always have a soft spot for the kids in the bands.
More in a bit. Lots of video, but that takes work to edit.... and I have to get ready for tomorrow's guelaguetza in Etla!
The here and now... and what and why
Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.
First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

You can find my music on Jango (World & latin - Worldbeat) and at iTunes and most online stores.
