The here and now... and what and why
Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.
First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

You can find my music on Jango (World & latin - Worldbeat) and at iTunes and most online stores.

Your table is waiting
The tourists are back....sorta.
However, there is still room at La Hosteria de Alcala. Doesn't that look inviting?
Or maybe you would prefer this bench. It is very exclusive.
Popeye is one of my existential Buddhist masters. I live by his immortal words. "I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam." Toot, toot.

I saw this go up when I was in Oaxaca and wondered why Popeye in Mexico? I don't think he was one of their favs. Is it to draw gringos? To me tt is a heartbreak to see Popeye, or Cinnabon, in Oaxaca.
This one is no sudden thing. Popeye's has been selling ices and ice cream for years here. They are all over town and they taste pretty good. I don't know if they even exist in the States. And in truth, you would hardly notice Cinnabon. I never even smell it when I walk by... I have not been tempted yet. I wonder how they are doing? They have lots of local competition.
The one to be aware of is Walmart in its many manifestations, Sam's, Aurrera and a few others.
