The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Day of the Dead cont....

Talk about having a big head.

One of the great things about this place is the constant flow of art that comes in many forms.

There is always something new to see, hear, smell, touch or taste.  These are large papier-mâché heads that lined the pedestrian walkway on Alcala for the week.

They were all the same size, but each artist or group of artists could do what they wanted.

A little dental detail.

This one in particular had some wonderful painting.

Those are cool. I would have liked to have seen them.

Speaking of heads. how about the severed head found at Cerro del Fortin? And the Zetas took creidt for this too? Things are really opening up in Oaxaca.

By the way, I think you are the only person who blogs from Oaxaca. Do you know?

Here is a link to the head to which you are referring. It is graphic.

There is more going on in these stories. First, the paper I am getting some of the info from is Oaxaca's equivalent to Pravda. So it may not all be kosher. The government changes in just a few weeks, so everything may be maneuvering, manipulation and Machiavellian machinations. Know what I mean? I dunno if I am the only one. There must be others.
