The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

No day at the beach...

"Gee, Chris, why no blog posts?"  I've been fighting some off/on illness that has laid me up to the point where I finally had to see a doctor, a first for me in my years of being in Oaxaca.  I do have a doc in Boston, where from where I just returned, but next available appt. was sometime in the distant future.
I was struck by the difference here.  I called at 10 AM and got an appointment for 11:30.  Cost was $25 US and it was suggested that I get some tests done.  So I walked a couple of blocks and immediately was seen, a full range of tests was performed for about $100 US.  The results will be emailed to me on Monday.  I know from previous experience, that all of the above would have cost me about ten times more in the States where I am a self-pay.
Anyway, I feel better and am ready to face whatever gets thrown at me... yeah, right.

You can walk in to see Dr. Zamacona on Los Libres one block east of El Parque el Llano. Fee seems about the same. He studied in Los Angeles and is fluent in English. Extremely nice person. Hope you are better. I arrive for the winter this Thursday.

He was the doctor I saw. Very nice and professional. And he's a musician. I'd rather see him in that context
