The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Beatriz!!

This is Beatriz Ruiz, daughter of good friend, Antonio Ruiz, the master weaver from Teotitlan del Valle.
Yesterday, we were there for the convite, the procession of unmarried women and girls, which is always a special and beautiful event.  And this is Bea five years ago as she carried her canasta through the streets of the village. (It's all about Bea).  Time certainly has passed.
And this is Beatriz yesterday, quite the professional photographer now with her photos included in exhibitions in the city and in Teotitlan.
And this may be where it all started.
I think I gave her her first camera to use.  I wanted to see what the convite looked like through her eyes.  Here are those shots.  Ain't life sweet?   Beatriz is a such a wonderful person, as are her two brothers, Diego and Antonio, and it is all because her parents and grandparents have passed it all on.... and yes, it certainly takes a village.....
