The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Checking in

I took a quick trip into the city to see what was happening.  Even though tomorrow is Tres Reyes day, school vacation is over and the holiday rush is over.  I was curious to see what the zocalo looked like and even though there were more teachers' tents than last week, the main promenades around it were wide open with no vendors or stalls.
It is so nice to see this and I hope it stays this way, but... I doubt that it will.  There are powers beyond my awareness at work here so... one day at a time, each one a blessing.
One of the reasons the zocalo was still clear of vendors was a prominent police presence although they were just hanging, very low key.  I did not take their pictures, but it appeared they were prepared if needed.
Walk on by...
Nothing to see...
It's not over..
The struggles continue
