The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

A vision

I was coming back from a wonderful breakfast at Henry and Rosa's in San Agustin Etla when I saw this spot of bright yellow way down the dirt road I was on.  The clouds were hugging the mountains and el campo is lush and vibrant after the nice rains we have had in the last few days.
As I got closer I could see that the yellow was a basket filled with flor de calabasa, squash blossoms, and they were as fresh as they could ever be.  I jumped out of the car and told the woman carrying them how beautiful the flor and she looked against the mountains.  "Please let me take your picture."
She just smiled and humored the obviously crazy person.
Really, it was a beautiful moment and we know that our lives are filled with moments.  They need to be savored and filed in the memory banks.  This one sure was and is.
