The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Yes, we have no... radishes?

Ay!  No Noche de Rabanos this year. After 122  incarnations, it made sense to cancel it and all the other holiday festivities.  I know I am like many, I really miss this celebration.  I don't think I've missed one in many years and I so look forward to seeing many of the participants, who are there year after year, and are friends now.
It turned out 2020 was the Year of the Kraken just the wrong kind... as if there is a right kind of kraken.  Well, maybe this kind.
Still, we have our memories and will hope that La Noche will be back in 2021.  It is such an important event and normally, tens of thousand of people would be here for it.
We miss her and everything else, but better to be safe and stay healthy.
