The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

All smiles.....

The convites in Teotitlan del Valle are always a wonderful combination of serious solemnity, pride, happiness and joy and you can see it in the faces of the participants....
The look in those eyes...
And those smiles...
And don't forget those baskets are heavy and catch the wind as they walk the almost five km.
And of course, it is always such a joy to see one of ours favorites, Beatriz Ruiz Lazo.
Back for the danzantes today....

Makes me smile. Thank you for the photos.

Speaking of art, imho, the highest of all arts, the one that if done well, does the most good- prevents the most suffering and/or creates the most opportunity, justice, creativity, is the art of the organizer, yet the one whose art is rarely if ever celebrated, compared to the singer, actor, or even visual artist. Yet for all of us today, who by accident or fate are alive at this most critical moment in our species history, there is no artist who deserves more help than that of organizers working for organizations like ExtinctionRebellion (Rebellion.earth) and FridaysForFuture, who tragically are still virtually non-existant in Mexico and CA, ironically, this year the land of 108 forest firest in the spring, and years of draught in the Northern Triangle. (I live in Oaxaca myself, and work fulltime without pay to help XR (extinction Rebellion) et al

Gracias! We all do what we can, but silence is not an option.
