The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Baby, it's cold outside... and inside, too

People think that Mexico is always nice and warm.  Well, OK, so it ain't Pittsburgh, where it is currently 24 F (-4C), but it is pretty damn cold here and people bundle up almost like they're in Pittsburgh.
There has been snow and frost nearby and sadly, two people died of hypothermia.  The thing is that there's no such thing as central heat here and cement houses stay cold with all that mass.  Yesterday, the sun warmed things up, but today it's cloudy and in the 50's at noon.
People rely on space heaters or by wearing layers.  I currently have on a T shirt, a shirt, a sweater and a jacket... in the house.  Outside, it is serious coat weather, but one can still look cool.
Stay frosty, amig@s.
