The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Today's the day!

If you can, please join Shannon Sheppard from Casa Colibri and me this afternoon for our presentation on the Danza de la Pluma from Teotitlan del Valle at the Oaxacan Lending Library at 5 PM.
We have spent three years following this group of dancers and it has been a real honor and education.
The more we learned, the more we realized there was to learn.   As in all things oaxaqueño, there is so much depth and history.
And it has been so sweet to watch two of the principals grow up.  Juana Lisabeth Contreras Vincente as Malinche.
And Alani Ruiz Ruiz as Doña Marina.  They, as will we, will carry these memories for the rest of their lives.
We will be there tomorrow as they dance their final dance.

Wish I could have been there to see and learn about the Danza de la Pluma from Teotitlan del Valle at the Oaxacan Lending Library. Maybe next year. Sounds great what you and Shannon are doing. Hello to Shannon.
