The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Butterflies and bees

I have been in this house less than a year.  When I moved in, there was an adjoining lot that was part of the property, but it was walled off and looked like a bomb zone.  They had just brought in a backhoe to dig some drainage areas and to fix the septic system.  So there were piles of dirt and huge piles of cantera, a type of stone that is used in lots of construction.  These were pretty big piles and I felt like Sisyphus many times, but eventually I moved all that dirt and stone and laid out a garden.  Then I planted a few things, but it was the beginning of the dry season and it was a real challenge to get everything through.  Not everything made it, but now that the rains have come, look at the results.
The zinnias, cosmos and marigolds are just starting to flower.  It looks like I will have an ocean of color out there for a couple of months.
There is a lot of life out there.
 Just stopping by....
Abejas (bees) will save the world.... we hope.
Always, always, always, I plant things that will attract birds, bees and butterflies.
The cosmos are from a friend in Maine.  Thanks, Marilynn!!
Ahhhh....

Beautiful garden, so rustic and natural...And those butterflies - they represent a woman's soul to me, so light, beautiful, yet strong and fearless...
