The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

oops OK there it is
Ok so how does this tradition relate to DOD? Are the dancers with all the music and mirrors scaring away the bad spirits as they welcome home the spirits of the dead relatives and friends?

There seems to be a problem, but I think it is them. Will just have to wait and see.

I will have to do a little research on the origins of the mirror and bells.

Also curious what the furry tails on the dancers' costumes symbolize.

Wow, ever again. Between this and the result of your food shopping in the next post... wow! Great editing (music) by-the-by. Thanks.

Seems the cheerful dancers in costumes with bells/mirrors/tails represent the devils.
Is that so? Are they trying to lure people to join their party here?
Truly fascinating music, dance and the characters. Sure there is an interesting story behind this.
Thank you.
