The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Children of the Guelaguetza

This has really been a spectacular week thus far.  I would venture a guess that it is the best Guelaguezta in years.  It might have something to do with having a new governor in place with a new administraion in charge of managing things.... but what do I know.
I do know that it is a photographer's dream and they were out in full force yesterday for the desfile or parade.  I showed up early at the plaza where all the delegations of dancers assembled.  It turned into a great fiesta with music and dancing everywhere you looked, a grand cacophony of sights and sounds.  I have plenty of new shots and video, but I thought I would start with some of the kids involved in the celebration.

Getting ready.

Not too cute.

Barbie was in attendance with her friend from the Cañada region if my eye for hupiles is getting better.

Even the spectators were decked out.

Not everyone was in the parade, but they were still having fun.

Dancing in the streets.

An abundance of pride and beauty.

These children insure that the guelaguetza will continue for many years.

 ¡Viva Oaxaca!

Viva! The children are beautiful, great shots! I think you are correct about everyone being happy that URO is gone at last.
