The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Money home slows down

Full story from NoticiasNet.mx

Remittances, money sent home, to the state of Oaxaca has decreased by 6.2 million dollars in the first trimester of the year, said Luis Abdiel Pacheco Luna, director of the Unit of Economic Intelligence of the School of Professionals of the Economy of the State of Oaxaca. He explained that from January to March of 2010, the shipment of remittances was 257.5 million dollars, registering a fall, with respect to the last trimester of 2009, of 2.4 percent. "One of the explanations of this decrease is due to the slow recovery of the real estate sector in the United States. In this sector, 7.5 percent of the labor force is of Mexican origin, representing 20.2 percent of the total Mexican workforce in the US," he said. It is expected that in the second semester of this year the shipment of remittances will recover, since confidence indices in the American market are improving.
