The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Singin' (and dancin') in the rain.

The first desfile or parade of delegations of dancers from all the regions in the state began in heavy rains..... but that sure did not stop the action, excitement and feelings of pride and joy.  Here's one of the subalternos from Teotitlan del Valle properly dressed for the occasion.
There was great light as they began to assemble, but look at those dark skies.
Brother and sister posing for the camera while the light was good.
And then..... it rained..... pretty hard and for quite awhile.  Nothing like dancing with a wet turkey to make ones day.
The danzantes from Teotitlan del Valle were there and looked great.  And look who was dancing with them, the dance master for the group and father of this year's Monctezuma, Javier Gutierrez Hernandez.  He has done some really amazing choreography for the group.... and he can dance!
And so can his son, Sergio, better known as Monctezuma.
By this point I was like that turkey, soaked, so I headed back to the car like a wimp.  Ah well, there is always next week when it all happens again.  I'll hope for better weather.... along with everyone else.
