The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Window art

The first is from the remarkable restoration of the San Pablo Academic and Cultural Center funded by the Alfredo Harp Helu Foundation.  This is a new museum/performance space and library that is right next to the Textile Museum, the Macedonia Alcala Teatro and the Stamp Museum.  They take these things seriously here and these are all gems, both architecturally and culturally.

In the eye of the the beholder.

I love how this almost looks like it could be a framed piece, but that's the sky behind a roofless room.

Are they through with the restoration of the place? What will they do to that roofless room? Well, for what it’s worth, I think it works well as a venue for taking pictures. That window may be simple, but it has that charming, rustic touch to it.
