The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Faces of Pinotepa Carnaval.....cont

The masks seemed as if they were alive, moving.

Tejarones dancers from Santa Maria Huazolotitlan.

Animalitos from San Pedro Jicayan.

Headress made from rooster feathers and a sonaja.

One of the respected elders.

Dancers that seemed like they were from Lord of the Flies.

They ran through Pinotepa Don Luis uttering only one sound, "bloot, bloot, bloot."

The classic look of a white rebozo and pozahuanco.

Wow-opportunity of a lifetime to have experienced this! Don't you wish you knew the significance of all the little details of the dance costumes? I am fascinated by your beautiful pictures.

Many years ago, I was getting on the shuttle to the airport on my way to Oax to make this Carnaval journey w/the Blum-Wang family. I slipped in my fancy, new espadrilles, turned my ankle and broke my foot stepping off the curb. Wasn't my time to go, but it's on the list to do before I die. So glad you went. You are right. It's the villages.

I am already planning on going back next year. It takes a couple of times to get it right in terms of shooting. Next year, I plan on concentrating on video. So I have a little time to plan and research. It was mind-blowing......
