The here and now... and what and why

Complacency is a trap. At least that’s what I was thinking when I up and left the comfort of a Yankee prep school gig, where I taught music, amongst other things, for 28 years. There was also that life long career as a composer, musician and artist.

First, it was a year in St. Thomas, USVI, working as a reporter and shooting photography and then, a year in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Time passed.
More time passed and a year back in the Athens of America followed by a hasty return to Oaxaca where it is all happening.
A couple of years in San Sebastian Etla and now, just down the road in San Pablo Etla. Life is good.

Ceramics in Acatlan de Osorio

Yesterday, Henry Wangeman (of Amate Books - see the side list of Oaxaca's Best)) and I drove up through the mixteca alta into the state of Puebla to Acatlan de Osorios to check out the ceramics for which the place is so famous. Times have changed and they are not producing the quanity and quality that they did in years past, but it was still a worthwhile visit and a beautiful drive. I loved these drainage gargoyles. And these classic ollas.I had not been there before, but Henry has been going there for years and he was his normal font of information and unbridled enthusiasm. Here he is with Sr. Lopez, the owner of the place we visited.
On the way back we were overwhelmed with the wonderful fragrance of onions from this truck (sorry, it's blurry, but we were flying by) and then spotted this beauty filled with corn headed to market in Oaxaca. What dramatic and beautiful country, lush and verdant.

Chris,

I'm happy you are where your heart is and I hope you find the love, serenity, and your purpose in Oaxaca. Maybe I'll see you there one day. Flying in with a rainbow again.
Peace is you,
Sonya
