Yesterday, the day on which the Virgin of Guadelupe was celebrated, was filled with various happy events, lots of music and of course, cohetes, firecrackers. After our presentation on Wednesday, we just had to go to Teotitlan del Valle to see the danzantes. Most of them wore beautiful hand made capes, each with an image of the Virgin.
Beautiful work.
Lots of time goes into each piece.
More shots of the dance coming...

Hello Chris
ReplyDeleteI remember you werevery interested aboutthe iconic image of the malinche, and you has made a good research of her and a good analys also with the "danza de la Pluma" you have understood the importance of her ( malinche ) for our mexicans complains and way of being. And now ,I can see that you are beggining to catch the guadalupe images. and that is going to be a much harder iconic woman to understand. she is the most relevant woman in our mexican identity. and she is the real conquest and mix with the european culture, she is the open door to the new and modern mexican culture, Mestizaje total .
Thanks for this. The Mexican psyche is so complex. There is so much to learn and try to absorb, but it sure is fun and rewarding to keep trying. You have planted a seed....
ReplyDeleteGuadalupe!
ReplyDeleteAnother childish religious superstition.
An open door to nothing other than a continuum of mindlessness.
Origins of the myth.
